Lailatul Qadar or Lailat Al-Qadar (Arabic: ليلة القدر, night of judgment) is an important night that occurs in Ramadan, which in the Qur'an is described as a better night than a thousand months. And also commemorated as the night of descending the Qur'an. Descriptions of the privileges of this evening can be found in Surat al-Qadar, the 97th letter in the Qur'an.
According to Mr. Quraish Shihab, the word Qadar (قدر) according to its use in the verses of the Qur'an can have three meanings:
1. Determination and arrangement so that Lailat Al-Qadar is understood as the night of God's determination for the journey of human life. The use of Qadar as a provision can be found in the letter of Ad-Dukhan verses 3-5: Verily We send it down (Al-Quran) one night, and indeed we are warning. On that night all the affairs of wisdom are explained, the great affairs of Us
3. Narrow. That night is a narrow night, as many angels descend to the earth, as affirmed in the letter of Al-Qadr. The use of Qadar to symbolize narrowness can be found in the letter of Ar-Ra'd verse 26: God enlarges the desired and narrow sustenance (for His will)
Lailatul Qadar can also be interpreted as the night of abundance of the virtues promised by God to the Muslims who desire to get a share of the abundance of the virtue. This virtue is based on the value of Lailatul Qadar as a better night than a thousand months.
